I've narrowed it down to either the S1000XR or the 1290 Super Duke R. I've ridden both and like both. Bottom line, for me, is the XR is more comfortable and more versatile, but the Super Duke looks better. With the XR I'm a bit worried about the engine vibrations, with the KTM about reliability. Since I'm an average rider at best, I don't think
What looses it for the BMW is weight and length. It's too heavy (BMW lie about the weight, they claim similar to GT, but it's a good 20KG heavier and carries that weight much higher up, GT feels like a tiny baby in comparison). But while we're talking about weight/length - the XR will easily win at the traffic light GP.
The 1290 Super Duke R’s powerplant leads something of a Jekyll and Hyde lifestyle. Below 6000 rpm, the Super Duke R’s massive twin engine is remarkably amicable. It allows you to chug along in
But people forget that KTM has been manufacturing street bikes for almost 25 years. They first released the goofy-looking Duke 620 back in 1994, and they have come a long way in that time. Hell, they’ve come a long way in the past five years. The KTM 1290 Super Adventure S is sure to attract some attention. Photo by Brett Walling. New dash. 4. poor quality chain seizing up. All this in the first few months of ownership of a brand new bike, and looking at the various forums around these were very coming faults on the new 790

They are good quality and have been running them for the last 5 years clocked about 60,000 miles in them on the 1190 Adventure. Picked up a 2020 KTM 1290 Super Duke GT and even with my stubby legs I feel so much better on this bike in the parking lot action or coming to a stop on an off camber. And these boots help. I recommend highly.

If you can find one, the Super Duke GT would be my sport tourer of choice. Second would be 1290 SAS. I’ve been in this predicament for years. I also have a wife that loves touring with me. The 1290 is damn near perfect with the exception of how tall it is. If you can handle the 1290’s height and weight it’s definitely the right choice.
MCN Fleet: The KTM 1290 Super Duke GT is good, but not perfect. Reliability & build quality 1 out of 5. Too many issues to list, ECU programming issues, rattling mirrors replaced, faulty gear
KTM 1290 Super Duke GT reliability? Guys, looking at the 1290 Super Duke GT and I want to know from peeps who actually have a newish KTM how they feel the reliability is these days.
